Sgt. Frank W. Gates, who was a private, corporal, and later orderly sergeant of Company K, was a native of Kentucky, of German and English descent, and came with his parents to Illinois in 1855. In 1862 he left a young wife to enter the service of his country, and after three years of service, returned to his home to engage in farming. He has held several offices of trust, and is a leading member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He resides near Girard, Ill. Source: History of 115th Reg ILL Vol. Infantry |
