Thomas Dennis was born 1824 and died 1900. He enlisted as a private in Company A, 112th Illinois Volunteer Infantry at Annawan, Illinois on August 12th 1862 along with his brother-in-law, John H. Batten. They enlisted for three years. Company A, 112th Illinois, was commanded by Captain Dow.

Private Dennis was promoted to Corporal in September 1864.

He was mustered out with his company on June 20, 1865 in North Carolina.

After the surrender,the 112th Illinois Infantry returned to Greensborough, N.C. It remained there on garrison duty,until mustered out of Federal service on June 20,1865.

During its career the regiment lost four officers and seventy-six enlisted men killed or mortally wounded. an additional officer and one hundred fifty-three enlisted men died from disease or other non-battlefield causes.
