This hand-written note is from Captain Charles parker, 9th US Cavalry-post war, to my gr-gr-grandfather, Simeon Shaver of Company E, 17th Illinois Cavalry. Capt. Parker recruited my gr-gr-grandfather into the 17th and at the time he himself was in Company 3, 17th Cavalry.
